All Format Lab is a small independent project with a straightforward aim: make common file-format changes easier to understand and safer to complete. A format mismatch is a small problem that can interrupt a workday—an upload form accepts JPG but not PNG, a data export arrives in the wrong structure, or a file needs a more compatible copy. We are building focused tools that explain what changes, let people choose a destination format, and make the result easy to download.
How the tools work
The image, text, data, and ZIP tools currently available use browser capabilities to read a selected file, convert it locally, and create a download. For these conversions, All Format Lab's current static site does not send the file to a conversion server. The browser still needs to load the page code, and standard connection metadata is handled by the hosting provider. The page states file limits and format constraints so visitors can make an informed choice before selecting a file.
Different conversion pairs have different tradeoffs. JPG uses lossy compression and cannot keep transparency. PNG can keep transparency but may be larger for photos. WEBP is useful in many modern web workflows, but compatibility depends on the receiving app. CSV, JSON, and XML are structured differently, while ZIP tools must handle untrusted file paths and decompression sizes carefully. We aim to explain these differences instead of claiming that every format can be converted into every other format without loss.
The people behind the project
All Format Lab is maintained as an independent product project. The tools and explanatory pages are being built in stages, with a focus on clear limitations, browser-side privacy, and practical user tasks. We do not publish a staff directory or claim a large engineering team. As the service grows, this page will identify its operating business and contributors more fully.
What is available today
Image conversion supports PNG, JPG, and WEBP. Text and data tools cover a limited set of common conversions, and the ZIP utility creates or extracts archives within stated safety limits. Some PDF extraction, Office-document, and audio/video tasks need specialized processing engines and are clearly described as limited or planned. We will mark a feature ready only when the converter itself is available to use.
Our approach
- Say where a file is processed and what the tool does.
- Show format limitations before download, especially quality and transparency tradeoffs.
- Keep ordinary conversions simple and avoid requiring an account.
- Build useful, original guides around tools rather than publishing empty keyword pages.
