Image formats make different tradeoffs. PNG keeps sharp edges and transparency; JPG is widely accepted for photographs and uses lossy compression; WEBP is supported by many modern browsers and can combine compact web images with transparency. Converting changes how the decoded pixels are stored—it does not repair blur, recreate discarded detail, or automatically resize a picture. Keep the original until you have checked the converted file in its destination.
